Beaumont triples server capacity after vaccine demand crashes system

Dearborn

Corona Virus left us all helpless and hopeless. It took more than a year for the scientists to launch the first vaccine for the virus. As the vaccine was launched this year in January, many countries started pre-registrations for the vaccine on the online portals of various reputed health organizations. It came out to be a challenge for the organizations to maintain the server requirements.

Beaumont, one of the world’s largest healthcare organizations. The registrations started on the official website of the organization as well. Around 9000 people registered themselves on the Beaumont website on 8 January to register themselves for the coronavirus vaccines. The very next day 2500 people simultaneously tried to make their account for registrations on the website.

2500 people trying to register themselves at the same moment led to the website crash. The load on the server due to heavy traffic at the same time crashed the website. The news was in to air the next very moment, the news was about the reputation of the organization.

Beaumont decided to triple the server capacity after the website crash happened. The Beaumont health CIO Hans Keil gave a press release after that he said-

“In the healthcare information technology space, having thousands of patients trying to register at once is unprecedented and our servers were maxed out” he also explained the server crash by saying “It’s similar to what happens when people try to purchase concert tickets as soon as they go on sale and everyone cannot get through at the same time.”

Beaumont has the capacity of vaccinating 32000 people daily. The company is deciding to increase the capacity in the various branches of the world. The CIO also told that they have decided to introduce the email services on the website that will notify the vaccination time to the patients.
