Hairdresser ‘elated’ over prospect of returning to work from April 12

A hairdresser has said she is “elated” that a provisional date has been set for the hair and beauty sector to open back up for business.

With it being nearly three months since people were last allowed to visit their local hairdresser, lockdown hairstyles are becoming out of control and most of us will be in need of a good cut.

And as Boris Johnson revealed his roadmap out of lockdown yesterday, he said shops, hairdressers, nail salons, libraries, outdoor attractions and outdoor hospitality venues such as beer gardens may reopen on April 12 at the earliest.

Reacting to the news, Laura Jane, who works as a mobile hairdresser in Bushey, Barnet and Borehamwood, said: “I am very hopeful that the April 12 date announced will go ahead.

“When it was announced that it could be April 12 that hairdressers return to work I was elated and within minutes my phone was going and everyone was excited to make appointments.

“It has been a long hard lockdown and was very hard having to stop in December.

“Hopefully now with all the vaccines being rolled out – clients and myself have been vaccinated – we hope that we can carry on with no more lockdowns and hopefully start to get back to our normality.”

Laura added: “As well as financially, its all to do with your wellbeing, everyone feels better when their hair is done.

“I am very happy and excited to return to work.”

Yesterday, Boris Johnson said England is approaching “seasons of hope” that will usher in changes making lives “incomparably better” as he set out his plan to ease the lockdown by June 21.

The Prime Minister defended his “cautious but also irreversible” approach to relaxing restrictions with a four-step plan on Monday, arguing he will not be “buccaneering” with people’s lives.

But despite billing his plans as a “one way road to freedom”, he admitted he could not guarantee that restrictions will not have to return, as he aims for the impact of the vaccination programme replacing the need for lockdown measures.
