How much money will Titans eat if Isaiah Wilson gets cut?

The drama with Tennessee Titans 2020 first-round pick, Isaiah Wilson, took yet another turn on Monday night after the Georgia product tweeted he was done with the team before deleting it.

It isn’t clear if a decision was made by the Titans behind the scenes to part ways with Wilson and we just haven’t heard about it yet, or if this was just a tweet out of frustration, but either way it’s not a good look and it seems the two sides are heading for an inevitable separation.

If the Titans cut him, which reportedly wasn’t in the plans of the team as recently as last week, Tennessee will have to eat money, which might actually be as productive as keeping Wilson on the team.

According to Spotrac, Wilson’s total contract is worth $11.5 million and has $11.35 million of that fully guaranteed. The Titans will be on the hook for a $5.38 million dead cap hit for 2020, and then $2.75 million in 2021 and $2.58 million in 2022.

Will there be avenues for the Titans to avoid paying at least some of that? It’s certainly possible and you can bet the team will explore its options, but as of right now Wilson is looking like a total loss.

That will be a tough pill to swallow in more ways than one, and especially in 2020 with the Titans being strapped for cash this offseason, but then again the Titans likely won’t be getting anything for that money anyway.
