Twitter Bluesky | Decentralized Social Network Protocol

Twitter Bluesky

With the change of the ownership of Twitter, another news circulated in the market. Twitter BlueSky has released its first-ever code since its birth in 2019. In this post, we will cover more about Twitter Bluesky.

Soon after Twitter was sold, news came out very early regarding the Twitter Bluesky. BlueSky is working on a new decentralized social network protocol that will help companies to build and operate social media platforms with ease. Its first glimpse was released on GitHub for developers to experiment.

We will be discussing the background of Twitter Bluesky. How it will affect the company and what will be the benefit for companies. We will also find out when Twitter Bluesky will be released.

What Is Twitter Bluesky?

Twitter Bluesky

Twitter Bluesky was launched in 2019. It was an initiative to develop a decentralized social network protocol. It is a nonprofit initiative and the team has been conducting research since 2019. Now the company has released its first-ever platform on GitHub for other developers to test and experiment.

The former CEO Jack Dorsey said the first code was released. This is based on the Authenticated Data Experiment or ADX. This will give you a glimpse of how Bluesky plans to build a decentralized social network protocol.

The Bluesky team explains it as “When resources in a network can attest to their own authenticity, then that data is inherently live, canonical and transactive, no matter where it is located. This is a departure from the connection-centric model of the Web, where information is host-certified and therefore becomes dead when it is no longer hosted by its original service. Self-authenticating data move authority to the user and therefore preserves the liveness of data across every hosting service.

In ADX, this data will live in Personal Data Repositories owned by the user. These repositories are similar to websites in the sense that they represent content published by one user, but they use self-authenticating data to identify themselves independently of the host servers. We then create a larger, more interconnected view of the network by crawling the repositories with indexers.”

How Will Twitter Bluesky Benefit The Companies?

Once launched, Twitter Bluesky will work on a decentralized social network protocol upon which other companies can build and operate social media platforms. This is not a purely new concept. It is already being used by ActivityPub, Matrix, IRC, and many other similar platforms.

Once launched, the content on your one social media platform will be viewable and accessible from other platforms running on the same platforms.

This means now your content will be viewed by more people. If you post something on Twitter, it can be seen on Facebook, and Instagram as well. That sounds like a cool concept.

When Will Twitter Bluesky Launch?

As of today, October 26, 2023, Twitter’s Bluesky project has not officially launched as a full-fledged social media platform.

Here’s what we know about the current status of Bluesky:

  • Public Beta: In February 2023, Bluesky opened its platform to the public for beta testing after initially being invite-only. Anyone can now create a free account and explore the features.
